Show yourself some love, this February

Did you know…? The 1 February is known to have a higher “sickness” rate than normal amongst the employed? It is even nicknamed, “national sickie day”!

Let’s face it – Christmas is well and truly gone, the January sales are fading… Perhaps we’re beginning to feel the pinch and the dark mornings, certainly for me, aren’t helpful either to this cold time of year. Oh, and did you know that Shrove Tuesday isn’t until March this year…?! My kids are not happy about this fact!

I’d be silly to ignore that this month has a ‘romantic” vibe attached to it, thanks to, the commercially enhanced, Valentines Day on the 14 February. I’ve never been one for a romantic night for two at this time of year (perhaps its because it’s my birthday month!) however I do think it’s a good time of year to reflect on your own self and check-in on your own wellbeing.

I think the phrase “wellbeing” is also becoming a commercial buzzword, in terms of selling products that are both designed and promoted to make you feel better. For me, wellbeing is an overall care and feeling for our personal health, both mental & physical. It’s interesting to hear our client’s responses, when I ask how they look after their own wellbeing, as many stutter to find a response and some don’t quite understand what I am asking about. As many know, part of the Be Bold Be You experience, and ethos, is to allow yourself to create some time for you. For many this time is well overdue and most have a resounding feeling of loss of self. Whether you’re ready to embrace your own BBBY moment or not, I encourage you to take some time for you, this month. If the thought of self care sounds slightly alien, here are some ideas to for your to explore, for yourself, this February.

Feel free to try a breakfast based recipe from Simplicib’s guest blog with us, back in December

Creating an event, for yourself, to look forward is a positive action to get you through those “hump” based days. It doesn’t have to be an extravagant plan…

o   a catch up with friends or family

o   a day completely to yourself – including no kids, no work and no housework

o   a new walk/restaurant/hair dressers you’ve been meaning to try

o   or perhaps, even, your own Be Bold Be You boudoir photoshoot!

Whether it be on the 14 February, or another day this month we can use all of the heart covered supermarket aisles, whether in Derby or anywhere else, as a reminder and, perhaps, even treat ourselves. I say this regularly but I’ll never apologise for saying it – practicing self-care is not selfish. It really is a healthy routine that, I think, our western based society need to embrace more and worry, about doing so, less.

Let me know what you choose to do, to embrace self care, this month.
Kirsty
